10 Northwest Arkansas food blogs you should be reading.

Here are ten fabulous local folks who teach me a thing or two about foodstuffs in their blogs, websites and forums.

1.  Our Everyday Dinners.  I was hooked immediately the first time I stumbled across Fayetteville-gal Amy J’s food blog when I saw her tagline:  “Eat food. Not too much." Amy does a good job of posting photos and recipes of her daily meals (check out her easy fresh peach pie recipe) and sharing reviews of local restaurants around town.  What’s not to love when her top two content labels are “vegetables” and “dessert?”

2. Eat Out NWA.  Tagline is “Exploring dining options around town” and that describes this blog perfectly.  My friend Don authors this blog and all I can say is that he gets around town!  Easy to navigate, this blog will allow you to quickly read his restaurant reviews and determine for yourself where to go.  Check out his most recent review of downtown Bentonville’s newest boutique restaurant and brain-child of Chef Rob, Tusk & Trotter.

3.  The Food AdventuressYou may remember my mentioning this when I spotlighted it back in January.  When I interviewed Beth, she summed up her blog perfectly: “I will be posting not perfect foods created, I will be posting my colossal failures at cooking!  People are intimidated to cook when it has to be perfect and to look perfect.  That’s a barrier.  I think food should be fun.  Food should be adventuresome!” ‘Nuff said.

4. Now that’s Cookin.  This site is hosted by Frank who loves to eat his way around town and shares his honest opinions about his experience.  Recently he added the tagline “find your inner foodie.”  And if your inner foodie wants to know about local restaurants and food establishments, dive in and look around. In addition, you will also find information on local special events that have a food tie-in, as well as articles about local foodie topics.  He also has a forum where people can post questions and provide feedback.  He is crazy-active on facebook

5. Savory and Sweet.  This is a new discovery of mine and boasts a tagline that is quirky: “the journey of a self-proclaimed foodie, a sweet tooth and two broccoli hating redheads.”   It has a focus on healthy, sometimes vegetarian, and always kid-friendly.  Amelia’s frank and open style will win your heart.

6. Evolved Mommy.  My friend Stephanie’s blog is mainly about technology and mom musings but lucky for us, she has a dedicated page to all things foods.  Her style is honest and open and you will be hooked.  I loved her honestly and thoughtfulness after she reviewed Michael Pollen’s book, In Defense of Food and his commentary in Food Inc.  Read it.

7. Flyer Foodie. This is a column on the Fayetteville Flyer website with great topics such as how to make hummus, but the frequent conversations by author Laura Hobbs is found on the facebook site.  Posting often, she shares recipes and insights about her dinners and other foods inspirations from fellow Fayetteville residents.

8. Mealtime Mama, a section within that has great food tips and recipes for those who are moms… and those who are not, like moi!  Check out an alternative Fourth of July menu that includes Roasted Potato Salad with Bell Peppers, Roasted Corn & Tomatoes.  Hop in and browse awhile!

9. Ozark Natural Foods Blog.  I like this site because it quickly brings me up-to-speed on what’s fresh and in season and to find out what is happening at the co-op.  Also helpful for any tips and tricks related to foodstuffs, such as local vendor fairs at owner appreciation weekends.

10. The Food File.  This a Fayetteville dining site as detailed by its tagline “dishing up Fayetteville’s food news.” What I like about this site is not just the restaurant reviews… it has a link to openings and closings, inspection reports (good to know) and general food-gossip around town.  Seriously, who doesn’t like food gossip?

Have someone who you want to add?  Leave a comment so we all can meet them!

Eat well, my friends.  Eat well.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I'm checking them out right now. For some reason I couldn't comment on Eat Out NWA's post but I'm excited to try Tusk and Trotter. :-) My husband and I are always looking for new places to eat.

  2. Thanks Mandy, glad to share! Downtown Bentonville is really a gem... as is Downtown Rogers (The Rail, Le Meridienne, Rolandos). Enjoy!

  3. Mandy,

I just went and checked out the Eat Out NWA to see if I could post a comment... it's there, look for a link that says '0 comments.' -- you can be the first!

  10. Lyndi,

Thanks so much for mentioning Mealtime Mama! We know how difficult it can be to come up with meal after meal after meal. It's good to be inspired. You certainly supply lots of that on your blog, facebook page and tweets. XOX
