Let me help!
Did you receive your September 2011 issue of
Martha Stewart Living? In it, there
is an enchanting article on page 138 that delves into the jadeite green class collection
of Martha Stewart and her daughter, Alexis.
According to the article, “during the
Depression, when housewives couldn’t afford to waste a crumb, glassware
companies turned out inexpensive jadeite containers for flour, salt, and other
ingredients.”
As any collectable, some pieces are harder
to locate, such as green glass butter dishes with lids.
Do you have any of these beautiful green
dishes?
Interested in starting your own collection?
All you have to do is look around! Garage sales, flea markets, your relative’s
cabinets, and ebay to name a few.
Actually, I found a place locally that has a
decent collection to check out:
The Tontitown Flea Market (apparently the first and original flea market
to hit Tontitown), is located on the southside of Hwy 412E. An easy drive from just about anywhere
in Northwest Arkansas. Open daily
from 9-5.
Check out these two booths and their green
glass collection. Aren’t they
gorgeous?
The benefit of these green dishes is their
stability along with their appealing green tone.
One more thing... if you find a darker green dish, that’s extra credit for you
because they are more rare.
Happy hunting!

Eat well, my friends. Eat well.
oops, I have a confession.
ReplyDeleteAfter writing this I went back and bought all the little small jadeite saucer plates. I got to thinking that they would be perfect for appetizer plates!
Sorry if you were looking for them. My bad.
